As I may have mentioned, we’ve had guests for the last two weeks.
It’s OK, they’re leaving today.
I’ll try to have a “Things the Chap My Ass About House Guests” post up before they get home to read it.
In the mean time I thought you might like to know what I’ve been doing with my time, since I haven’t, you know, been posting regularly.
We visited the Matanuska Glacier, it’s cold:
We spent some time at the summit of Hatcher’s Pass:
We hiked Archangel Valley:
I climbed a rock, just to prove I still could (and I got down too, without breaking my neck):
We picked wild mountain berries, and the next morning I turned them into blueberry pancakes:
I threatened people with tongs:
We drank strange wine:
and stranger beer:
We went to the fair:
where we saw strange creatures:
And there was pie.
I’d offer you some, but I’m about to eat the last piece.
Apple caramel, just in case you wondered what you’re missing.
Warm.
With ice cream.
Okay, I give up: where's Putin? Which photos are the ones you can see Russia in?
ReplyDelete(Hey, KIDDING. Seriously, beautiful country, and the pie sounds awesome. Hope it was as good a trip as it looks, chapped ass notwithstanding.)
Ice in the summer? What, like you live in the north or something?
ReplyDeleteOK, pictures and narrative about pie succeeded in making me terribly jealous and hungry.
ReplyDeleteAre the stories I've read and heard about mosquitoes up there true? I hear the things are big enough to carry small pets away.
Glad to hear you had a good time. :)
Eric, he didn't say they visited Sarah Palin's office. I believe that is the only place in Alaska that affords a view of Putin.
ReplyDelete:D
Wow, great photos!
ReplyDelete(and no Bluetooth! HeHe)
Joe, It's the end of summer and getting cold at night, most of the mosquitoes have fled south.
ReplyDeleteI see great flocks of them in stately V formation almost daily now, their buzzing like the deep deep droning of ancient B-24's squadrons. They often have caribou slung below, or the occasional small bear or even stray unkempt children, blood and flesh to fuel their long journey south to the tourist filled hunting grounds of Miami Beach.
God, I love this time of year.
Eric et al, we did not see Putin, though I did see a woman in Three Bears that bore a striking resemblance to Brezhnev. Palin, thankfully, was nowhere in evidence. Perhaps the mosquitoes got her.
Fab pics. But "Were" you've been? Were you or where you?
ReplyDeleteZOMBIE BREZHNEV SIGHTED IN RUSSIA! GET YOUR GUNS, BOYS AND GIRLS, THE GODDAMN RUSSKIES ARE FINALLY COMIN'! JUST MAKE SURE YOU AIM FOR THEIR HEADS AND NOT THEIR BLACK UNDEAD COMMIE HEARTS, 'CAUSE THEY AIN'T GOT ANY!
ReplyDeleteWendy, the beer I mentioned? Yeah, it's never a good idea to drink and post. Thanks for pointing out my massive faux pax. I fixed it from my BB while standing in line for donuts. Technology is awesome.
ReplyDeleteEric, you forgot to take your take your medicine again, didn't you?
ReplyDeleteI didn't "forget," Jim. I realized I didn't need to take my medicine anymore after I found myself experiencing difficulty in the act of making love...

Got it!
Eric needs some vitamin H.
ReplyDeleteThat's some "interesting" looking beer there...
Jim, those are gorgeous pictures. I am very jealous.
ReplyDeleteSo jealous, in fact, that I've been perusing Amazon for books on photography.
Drat you!
Well it's Alaska, of course it's bloody cold. (And, yes, I have been there thank you). And if Canada ever annexes Alaska I'll move there in a hertbeat.
ReplyDeleteborrowed one of your glacier pcs for my desktop. Just looking at it makes me feel cooler.
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely pics, Jim - and the "Jim-with-tongs" pic has me quaking in my boots. I wasn't aware they taught that as a weapon in super-sekret-Navy-warrant weapons training.
ReplyDeleteI've been to both the glacier and the pass - and I *love* late September in south central Alaska, the colors are spectacular.
Jeri, I strongly suspect that with as many actual weapons Jim is trained for, he could turn most anything into a weapon!
ReplyDeleteYesterday, I turned a corn chip into a weapon. Then I stabbed some melted nacho cheese and guacamole with it. No one survived.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking more along the lines of death by teacup.
