If Life Was A Game Of D&D... (Updated)

...I'd be kicking your ass right about now

Just sayin'

I Am A: Neutral Good Human Ranger/Sorcerer (4th/3rd Level)

Ability Scores:

Strength-13

Dexterity-16

Constitution-18

Intelligence-16

Wisdom-16

Charisma-15

WARRANT - A Billion.

Alignment:
Neutral Good A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. However, neutral good can be a dangerous alignment because it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable.

Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.

Primary Class:
Rangers are skilled stalkers and hunters who make their home in the woods. Their martial skill is nearly the equal of the fighter, but they lack the latter's dedication to the craft of fighting. Instead, the ranger focuses his skills and training on a specific enemy a type of creature he bears a vengeful grudge against and hunts above all others. Rangers often accept the role of protector, aiding those who live in or travel through the woods. His skills allow him to move quietly and stick to the shadows, especially in natural settings, and he also has special knowledge of certain types of creatures. Finally, an experienced ranger has such a tie to nature that he can actually draw on natural power to cast divine spells, much as a druid does, and like a druid he is often accompanied by animal companions. A ranger's Wisdom score should be high, as this determines the maximum spell level that he can cast.

Secondary Class:
Sorcerers are arcane spellcasters who manipulate magic energy with imagination and talent rather than studious discipline. They have no books, no mentors, no theories just raw power that they direct at will. Sorcerers know fewer spells than wizards do and acquire them more slowly, but they can cast individual spells more often and have no need to prepare their incantations ahead of time. Also unlike wizards, sorcerers cannot specialize in a school of magic. Since sorcerers gain their powers without undergoing the years of rigorous study that wizards go through, they have more time to learn fighting skills and are proficient with simple weapons. Charisma is very important for sorcerers; the higher their value in this ability, the higher the spell level they can cast.

  1. Good lord, I had the same result, in spite of significantly lower scores on constitution, strength and dexterity.

    Strange.

  4. Seems my anti-authoritarian streak was showing.

Chaotic Good Human Wizard/Sorcerer (3rd/2nd Level)

    Ability Scores:
    Strength- 13
    Dexterity- 14
    Constitution- 15
    Intelligence- 15
    Wisdom- 13
    Charisma- 12

    Alignment:
Chaotic Good- A chaotic good character acts as his conscience directs him with little regard for what others expect of him. He makes his own way, but he's kind and benevolent. He believes in goodness and right but has little use for laws and regulations. He hates it when people try to intimidate others and tell them what to do. He follows his own moral compass, which, although good, may not agree with that of society. Chaotic good is the best alignment you can be because it combines a good heart with a free spirit. However, chaotic good can be a dangerous alignment because it disrupts the order of society and punishes those who do well for themselves.

    Race:

    Primary Class:
Wizards- Wizards are arcane spellcasters who depend on intensive study to create their magic. To wizards, magic is not a talent but a difficult, rewarding art. When they are prepared for battle, wizards can use their spells to devastating effect. When caught by surprise, they are vulnerable. The wizard's strength is her spells, everything else is secondary. She learns new spells as she experiments and grows in experience, and she can also learn them from other wizards. In addition, over time a wizard learns to manipulate her spells so they go farther, work better, or are improved in some other way. A wizard can call a familiar- a small, magical, animal companion that serves her. With a high Intelligence, wizards are capable of casting very high levels of spells.

Sorcerers- Sorcerers are arcane spellcasters who manipulate magic energy with imagination and talent rather than studious discipline. 5. Wow... Jim, I hate to break it to you, but Ranger/Sorcerer really isn't much of a combo. I probably shouldn't criticize, since I've been known to play offbeat combos as a role-player, but in terms of kicking ass, R/S just splits you in too many directions. Your CHR is also low for a sorc., btw (this is part of the problem with this combo): you'll max out at fifth level spells unless you raise it, but that's going to leave your DEX fairly low on the Ranger side of it. The Wisdom score is decent--you should do alright when you're able to get Ranger spells. However a Ranger with STR as (what appears to be) a dump stat is kind of odd--I assume you're a Weapons Finesse kind of guy and that the character is build for roleplaying more than number crunching.

mfheadcase: Wizard/Sorcerer is just a bizarre combination, stacking arcane spellcasting classes (one a prepared caster and the other a spontaneous caster) is sort of weird and redundant. And that low CHR is just going to kill you. (You'll max out at second-level Sorcerer spells, not that it matters much, since the Sorc. spell list is the same as a Wizard's.) That build is entirely a wacky roleplayer's build. A min-maxer would hate you, although that's probably a good thing (min-maxers suck). But you may find that character pretty frustrating to play, especially as you progress.

  8. Oh, here are my stats:
    Ability Scores:
    Strength-11
    Dexterity-10
    Constitution-12
    Intelligence-16
    Wisdom-14
    Charisma-14

I really think the strength should be a lot lower than that.

  11. I'm a NG Human Wizard-5 with the following ability scores:

    Strength- 8
    Dexterity- 11
    Constitution- 11
    Intelligence- 15
    Wisdom- 15
    Charisma- 13

I'd say my Intelligence is fairly low for this class, though it isn't terrible and my Wisdom is high enough to contemplate the possibility of multiclassing into Druid at some point. (Cleric? There are no gods! Faugh!)

Fortunately I can worry about raising my INT later--unlike some people, I'm smart enough to cast all the spells available to me at this level (:-P). My available spells would be:

    4 cantrips
    3 1st level + 1 bonus spell
    2 2nd level + 1 bonus spell
    1 3rd level

    Hrm. Let's go with:

    Cantrips:
    Open/Close, Message, Prestidigitation, Detect Magic

    1st Level
Magic Missile (of course!), Mage Armor, Color Spray, Expeditious Retreat (bonus spell)

    2nd Level
Protection From Arrows, Summon Swarm, Touch Of Idiocy (bonus spell)

    3rd Level
Fireball (oh, yeah, burn, baby, burn!)

In short: you better run me through quick, Jim, because if I get initiative you can reasonably expect to go kerblooey moments before being eaten by rats. Just saying.

  12. Wow. What brought this on?

(Not that I need a reason to talk D&D. I'm pre-2nd edition everything!)

    I should start a game. AD&D. 1st edition. For us old-timers only.

After I get back from England.

  13. What brought this on?

Well mostly I thought you'd get a kick out of it.

  14. Did I hear somebody say they were starting a 1E campaign?

::looks around eagerly while grabbing his dice bag off the table::

  15. *looks around sheepishly* I know this is enough to get my geek-card pulled, but I've never played D&D.

I had the very first box set (I think), the one so old they hadn't invented dice yet. I read it repeatedly, and would have loved to play, but I lived so far out in the wilds of northern lower Michigan that there wasn't anyone within 50 miles to play with. By the time I was around gamer-types, they by and large had well-established groups with experienced players, and didn't seem welcoming to newbies. My time was pretty full by then anyway.

It's always looked like fun, with the right group.

  16. Uhh... Jim, what's your favoured enemy?

    Also:

Chaotic Neutral Human Wizard/Sorcerer (2nd/2nd Level)

    Ability Scores:
    Strength-13
    Dexterity-10
    Constitution-14
    Intelligence-15
    Wisdom-15
    Charisma-16

Seems kinda silly to me - that seems more like a bard build, but hey.

    I totally did.

When I get home in an hour, I will roll 3d6 six times in order.

  20. Jim, what's your favoured enemy?

I love all of my enemies equally and try not to play favorites. My philosophy when is comes to enemies can be summed up as: Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, revel in the lamendations of their women.

    That, my friend, is good.

  21. Awe crud - link to find out doesn't see m to be working for me. :(

Say, I had no idea that I was surrounded by fellow game geeks...Phiala, sorry to hear you didn't get to play back in the day.

Girls in my junior and high school day wrote us gamers completely off the datable list. :)

You'd a been a welcome mix to the game.

I've been running a play by post/email game for about a year now. I'm a terrible DM, I have absolutely no discipline with the summer and all.

Have to start working on it again...hey if anyone is interested in taking a look, take a look at... http://www.wog-campaign.com

  22. Sorry, Jim: no editing your character sheet at the table. Anyway, "Warrant" is from a 3rd party supplement. :P

As for favored enemy (bonus to detection and damage, among other things), it's pretty obvious your favored enemy is racist pricks. Sadly enough, that's probably a good choice in this campaign, seems you may be encountering a lot of them. (Worse news: they're a low-level challenge and not worth a lot of experience. On the plus, I'd consider taking Great Cleave as soon as you can, you should be able to plow through 'em like a mechanical thresher.)

Enjoy the steaks and have a great evening, man.
