Jim is on vacation in the Florida Panhandle. After 25 years of visiting this place, he still doesn't understand the allure of boiled peanuts...

Becky, showing off her melons at the family picnic...

Just so you all understand, this joke was hysterically funny at the family picnic. Just saying.

You know, any of the ocmments I came up with will get me smacked, so I won't say any of them...

ReplyDeleteBad fingers...
It's ok, my mother in law already smacked me.
ReplyDeletePresumably for bad grammar -- I see only one melon.

ReplyDeleteOH! There's a watermelon too. I get it. :)
I'm sorry, what were we talking about? I got distracted there for a moment.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of a comment about watermelon seeds, and ::SMACK:: the results of eating them ::SMACK:: but it would get me smacked. Again...
ReplyDeleteSo I'll mention that someone did a watermelon song a couple years ago that got a lot of air play. Yes, it was a Southern redneck kinda song, why do you ask???

Thank you for sharing the melons.
ReplyDeleteAnd just so you Southerners know, most of the family put salt on their water melon before consumption.
ReplyDeleteJim,
ReplyDeleteSalt on watermelon is one of the few southern influences I proudly hold onto. We had to get something right!
Personally, I hate water melon.
ReplyDeleteI like that show Mail Call where the Gunny (R. Lee Ermey) blows them up though.
Yep, that's how I feel about watermelons myself.
ReplyDeleteNothing like a fresh cold slice of watermelon on a hot summer day. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe last slice I had was at the seafood market, though. They put the slices on the table where they gut fish. I ate mine with some trepidation, but miraculously didn't get sick...
Watermelon rind makes a great pickle. The problem is finding a watermelon that has a rind thick enough to bother.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what to do with the flesh of the melon though, don't care for it, mostly.
Cantalope flesh also makes a good pickle.
Be doing both later this summer, I've a nephew who loves the stuff, so I make enough for his family each year.
